Well it's been a busy week, so the trips have been shorter and the reports are late, but here's one... A week ago Sunday, Leesa and I went to explore Inman Pond in the Lake George Wild Forest on the lower east side of the lake.
Looking East from the North side of the pond |
Parking is on Sly Pond Road at a designated trailhead parking area. There is a through trail which heads northeasterly approximately 4 miles to the popular Pilot Knob trailhead for Buck Mountain, but there is also a offshoot trail which branches to the right after the first half mile (just before a small footbridge). The trail then climbs 300' or so over the next half mile.
Designated campsite on the north shore |
As we reached the pond the trail forked to go along either side of the pond. We chose the right fork first to walk along the northerly side of the pond. There are 2 designated campsites on the north shore. We liked them both, but the 2nd (more northerly one) we decided was the best). Shortly after the 2nd campsite, the trail ended.

From the 2nd campsite on the north shore, we could see quite a rock escarpment on the SW shore. We retraced our steps to the fork and then went along the south shore. There is one designated campsite on the south shore, but it is not as nice as the two on the north shore.

This trail also soon ended, but we continued by following a rough herd path to the base of the cliff. We looped around the back side and soon were on top with a nice view of the pond.
This was a nice short walk and would be an easy trek with a pack to camp at one of the designated sites. All are at the water's edge.
Hike Stats:
Hike Distance: 3.5 miles
Hike Time: 1.5 hours

Nice Report! I went there on snowshoes once in the winter after an ice storm. I was the loudest thing in the forest! Nice pond and I was checkin out those cliffs, didn't climb them though. Happy Hiking!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I can't wait for snow and colder weather. I've had enough of the dog days...
